Tania Whalen

Born in London and now based in Brooklyn, NY, Tania creates hand-built ceramic works that honor the raw, expressive nature of clay. Using the traditional pinch and coil technique, her process is slow and intuitive, quiet and rhythmic, allowing each form to develop organically. Textured surfaces and sculptural silhouettes emerge through touch, balance, and restraint.

Inspired by nature, architecture, music, and everyday forms, her work embraces imperfection and quiet strength. Left unglazed on the exterior, the pieces emphasize tactility and the inherent character of the material, existing as singular objects that move fluidly between function and sculpture. More than objects, her pieces are emotional topographies.

"Vessels in Texture is a working series in my exploration of form and surface texture. Initially inspired by rugged landscapes, the pieces have evolved into raw sculptural shapes shifting through various themes. I am interested in light and shadow, the conversation between forms, the bend of a neck or tilt of a lip, and the dialogue within. Today I aim to embody the spontaneous energy of creation, where play and intention meet." — Tania Whalen
